“I want to be a storyteller.” To put it as simply as possible, that is Galen Martin’s mission. From the kudzu covered bluffs and endless delta flatlands of his youth, to the Piney Woods of south Mississippi he has called home since 2006, Galen has been observing the world around him- and taking mental notes. Imagery of the deep south and it’s residents are oozing from each lyric of his upcoming release Unknowing Villain, the first album of his 20 year career in music to bear his name on the cover. “I’ve always loved playing in bands and collaborating. I’m very excited to have the opportunity to share this record knowing that it is 100% my voice and to see how it is received, and I’m so honored by the top notch musicians that helped to make it happen.” With influences such as Johnny Cash and John Prine it is easy to relate to the blue collar lyrics which are showcased throughout most of Galen’s songs. When asked about his ultimate goal, he’s not asking for much. “I just want people to give it a listen and just maybe a few folks will connect to it or even better, get something out of it. That’s really what I’d like to accomplish.” Galen Martin is a storyteller. Perhaps the moral of the story is good things come to those who wait.
